Finding God on the Road
Nou Savun used to be a motor-taxi driver before he became a Christian. It was by chance that he bumped into a man named Ung Ham. After some small talk Mr. Ham mentioned to Savun that he was an SDA church planter in Phnom Penh and that he would love to welcome him to the new church. Before departing Ung Ham said these words, "Jesus is a very powerful God and He can do all things for us if we believe." These very words would later bring Savun into his first contact with the God that he loves and serves today.

A couple of weeks went by after his fortunate meeting with Mr. Ham but, Savun did not give a second thought toward Ugn Ham or the SDA church that he was invited to attend. Savun had just recently moved into the area and, despite being a motor-taxi driver, was still a bit unfamiliar with the roads. One evening Savun was out riding on his motorbike and had gotten lost. It was already evening and as it was starting to become dark, the streets became even more unfamiliar without any daylight. Becoming frustrated Savun continued to seek and search for some familiar landmark or street sign that would help him to lead his way home. After several tries to find his way home Savun had finally given up. In his desperation he had one last hope, he remembered the words that Mr. Ham had spoken to him a few weeks before, "Jesus is a powerful God and He can do all things for us if we believe." This was the last hope that Savun could grasp on to. Not knowing how to pray to God he sent up a simple prayer, "Jesus, please help me find my way home if You really are a powerful God."

After a few minutes Savun decided to start up his motorbike and continued on his way. Before long he had noticed that the road that he was on looked very familiar, it was the main road that he could use to find his way home! Simply amazed by this miracle and consequently the first encounter with God, he wanted to know more about Jesus. When the next Sabbath rolled around he visited the church that Mr. Ham had mentioned to him earlier in their previous conversation. He was welcomed with open arms and before long was receiving Bible studies from the pastor, Hang Dara. Savun was excited about his new found faith and did not delay in spreading the truth to his wife and children.

God has more than just answered his prayer that evening to find his way home. Through these series of events Savun was able to find a heavenly home in Christ and has the joy of sharing his faith with the rest of his family.

Answering the Call of God

Savun was getting involved with his church group by helping Mr. Ham. They traveled together spreading God’s word and visiting other church members. He was helping and volunteering for about half a year before he received some bad news, the government was requiring his family as well as several other poor families to move into another area called Toul Sambo.

It was not long after this happened that Pr. Hang Dara, the pastor of the Phnom Penh church group, visited him. Several other church members from Ung Ham’s group had also been moved to the same area so the Pastor was trying to keep in touch with everyone as much as possible. Pr. Dara was looking for a leader to continue to guide the displaced church members in worship for God. Savun accepted the responsibility without hesitation because of his love for the Lord and his desire to share God’s love to as many people as possible. From then on Savun is now a church planter and thoroughly enjoys his duty of sharing God’s love to other people, "This is my happiness working as a church planter."

Happiness in the Lord
Savun is happier now that he is following the Lord and doing His work. To him, there is no greater joy than sharing the love that changed his life and helping others change their lives for God. When asked about what makes him happy, Savun responds, "When I see the love of God among my neighbors and church members, I feel at peace and happy. My happiness is to share God’s love with others and to see how others are sharing that love to more people." The joy of God is evident in his life and heart and Savun continues to pray for the growth of his church members.
